Consultant Endocrine and Breast Surgeon
Mark Lansdown is a Consultant Endocrine and Breast Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Mark Lansdown has worked as a Consultant General Surgeon in Leeds since 1994 and has just finished a 2-year term as President of the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS). He has contributed to development of guidelines and setting standards in endocrine surgery both locally and nationally.
The ‘hub and spoke’ approach, based on a centralised MDT, that he developed to manage thyroid cancer in West Yorkshire led to much improved outcomes in the region. In the past he has had significant roles in postgraduate education through the Leeds Deanery and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He was a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee in General Surgery for 5 years. He has been a Clinical Coordinator for the National Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) and is presently the ASGBI representative on the NCEPOD steering group. He is a Trustee of BAETS and the patient-support group the British Thyroid Foundation.
