General and Gastrointestinal Surgeon
Ian is a general and gastrointestinal surgeon who qualified from the Royal London Hospital in 1980. He subsequently undertook a research period at The Royal College of Surgeons of England and was a Hunterian Professor in 1990. He was appointed to a consultant post at Barnet & Chase Farm Hospitals in 1993 and was also a consultant in upper gastrointestinal surgery at University College Hospital between 2003 and 2009.
He held a number of senior management positions in the Barnet & Chase Farm Trust and was appointed Medical Director in 2010, leading the organization through a major structural and transformational change. Following the acquisition of the Barnet & Chase Farm Trust by the Royal Free Hospital in 2014, Ian was appointed as the Deputy Medical Director of the new organization. Ian retired from the Royal Free trust in 2017, but continues to be an honorary consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital where he operates as part of the Sarcoma team, as well as undertaking private practice.
